Just came from the ENT.

I have been very sick with pneumonia since before Halloween, bedridden for the better part of 6 weeks. Could barely talk much of November from so much coughing. Anyway, I am starting to feel better thank God. What a journey and a major wake up call. Started eating healthy and have lost 25lbs while laying in bed. My voice just started coming back but it's been hit or miss whether there was gonna be anything there depending on how much I coughed the night before. Went to the ENT today and got a full check up and scope and miraculously my vocal cords are perfect, crazy. No nodes. Just still a little red from coughing. The other thing that was good news is my hearing and ear drums are good. Just a slight dip at 4-6k which he said is normal for my age. So it looks like I'm gonna live! Hell yeah. I can't wait to get back in action I really miss singing and now my band is about to unveil, so the timing is good that I got on a new life and health path.

I gotta tell you I can feel a big difference when I eat an organic plant base diet. I can't wait to get fully healthy and my voice is totally back I think it's gonna be better then ever. Anyway, Jamie really helped me out on the phone and turned me onto some great rehab stuff that have worked for me: zinc lozengers and the products at Superior Vocal Health. Getting pneumonia was the best thing that could have happened to me, 3 hospital and an ENT visit later. Life is funny, sometimes what we think are our greatest deficits are actually our best assets. I share this story with you because I was headed down the wrong path not just vocally but in overall health and well-being and this event has really snapped me out of it. Juicing veggies everyday now. Want to lose all this extra weight and get some clothes and go out there and live my dream of singing again. 15 years of living in the studio took it's toll on me on many levels and it's time to reclaim my life. It's never to late to live.

James

I think you and I are the same age. When life starts catching up with you and you realize there less years left ahead of you than behind you.

Although I have moved out of working on construction sites to management and my hearing has recovered somewhat, it is harder for me to tune a guitar. I really have to listen carefully, when it used to be quick and easy. I should just get used to using a digital tuner.

Legs and hips hurt now and then. Prone to bouts of diverticulitis. A permanent knot in my back. I don't know what that is but I could probably claim it as a tax dependent. My hands get cold and numb in winter time with not much provocation. I don't know if that is age or the result of decades of working outside in the elements, working past the point of losing feeling. You don't work, you don't get paid.

Everything is fuzzy without reading glasses. I need a new script.

Torn intermedial cartilege in the left knee from digging in mud. Similar weakness in the right knee from favoring. There are days when I walked with the aid of a back brace, knee brace, and a handful of ibuprofen. Losing some teeth.

Worst of all, my hair is thinning on top. But at least it has not turned gray. I will probably end up looking like Rob Halford, but way taller and with a prominent square chin (thanks to german ancestry.)

On the other hand, most of my feelings have been burned out by others and I had the others surgically removed.

Seriously though, glad to hear you have a clean bill of health and are getting some work, again.

Wow I dont know you, but I am surely glad things are looking up for you, sounds like you have been through hell. Also random question, how was it with that camera going through your nose?? Or did it go through your mouth. I am about to go get a check up myself as I am about to kick into high gear. However, I am not looking forward to that thing going up my nose lol. I know, call me a wuss, I also dont like the dentist ha ha. Still do it but just gotta complain a bit ha ha.

It has been incredible out here in my area. Everyone is sick, and I mean really sick. I am just starting to feel better, it's been almost 7 weeks. What's weird is my voice was starting to sound better but now my voice feels fine and is totally shot. Really strange. It's a process. I am just so happy it's still healthy.

Re: Just came from the ENT.

Thanks guys. Yeah it was a badass sucker. I'm feeling better but very worn out. And it's good to be around here. My head is back into singing like it was when I was a kid. Sat up last night singing and reading about singing.

For now, I'm just trying to get through this difficult month and move on from there. And THEN get back to my singing !!!

Wishing you all the best as ALWAYS !!!

Re: Just came from the ENT.

Man, pneumonia is the absolute WORST. I got it about 10 years ago from no wind on the 4th of July. My neighborhood is like a war zone and the fireworks smoke just settled over my block and I got pneumonia from it. Lasted a helluva long time too. Even when I got rid of it, I struggled with the after effects for months. Ever since that time I've been pretty susceptible to bronchial things. I guess once you get pneumonia, you're kind of prone to bronchial issues from then on, so you kinda have to keep your guard up.

In light of that, I keep these on hand:
http://www.amazon.com/RidgeCrest-Clearl … clearlungs

Also my doc gave me a prescription of Albuterol and Flovent inhalers.  I kind of use them as preventatives. If I start to feel like there's an old boot in my lungs, I use a bit of those. Word to the wise- don't shoot them in your throat. It'll really dry you out. My dr. gave me the idea of using a baby bottle nipple and shooting it into my nose. Works wonders as a preventative. There's also the whole nettipot thing too.
